Dennis
Roth was born and raised in the Chicago area. He attended Rich East High
School in Park Forest, Illinois. He got his B.A. in anthropology from
the University of Chicago and his Ph.D. in anthropology from the University
of Oregon. During the last 22 years he has worked for various agencies
of the federal government in Washington, D.C and has published books and
articles on environmental, rural, and Asian history. His wife, Shirley,
was born in the Philippines and now owns and operates A Taste of the World
restaurant in Herndon, Va. His daughter, Yumi, is an assistant professor
of art at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wi.
